Gorilla Sound is the name of our team. We are participating to the data collection of a research project on the vocal behavior of western gorillas at the Mondika Research Center. Roberta Salmi is our Principal Director, JUlia Jenkins is our research assistant, and Fabrizio Salmi is our media coordinator. The Leakey Foundation provided part of the funding. BaHaka trackers help us in the forest everyday. We collaborate with Wildlife Conservation Society, which run the site while developing gorilla ecotourism.
Mondika is located on the boarder between the Republic of Congo and Central African Republic, in the Djeke triangle. The blog aims to inspire interest in this magnificent species and support the research of their behavior while participating to the conservation efforts of the site where the research will take place. Western gorillas are the ape species we know less about, even if there are present in all the Zoos of our big cites. Habituating western gorillas to our presence and study their behavior in their natural habitat takes years and few places have succeeded until now. Sites like Mondika need to be supported by all of us! Help to make a difference. We will tell you about the daily life of a group of western gorillas called Kingo & Comp. We will inform you about their ecology, sociality and vocal system. We will share the life and problems of forest living with you. Help us to spread knowledge, tell your friends about western gorillas!
